Collection: Sarah Henrietta Purser

Portrait painter, cultural pioneer, and the first woman elected a full member of the Royal Hibernian Academy.

Sarah Henrietta Purser (1848–1943) was one of the most sought-after portrait painters of her generation — capturing Ireland's intellectual and political class with psychological precision and compositional confidence. She also founded An Túr Gloine, driving the revival of Irish stained glass and transforming the country's applied art landscape. At the age of 70 she was still producing work that outpaced painters a fraction of her age. One of the defining figures of Irish cultural life.
