Edwin Hayes — A View of Dublin Bay | Irish Art Print

Edwin Hayes grew up watching ships work their way in and out of Dublin Bay. He lived close to the docks, sailed these waters in a small yacht, and painted from experience — not observation. A View of Dublin Bay is that intimacy made visible.

Hayes studied at the Dublin Society Art School (now the National College of Art and Design) and first exhibited at the Royal Hibernian Academy in 1842. He went on to show at the Royal Academy of Arts in London for nearly fifty years, becoming a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours in 1863. The bay he grew up beside became his signature subject.
