About the Artist
Mainie Jellett (1897–1944) trained under Cubist pioneers in Paris and came home to shock Ireland awake. While conservative critics dismissed abstraction as "un-Irish," she painted anyway—pure colour, pure form, no apology. She co-founded the Irish Exhibition of Living Art and spent her short life fighting for Irish artists to be taken seriously on the world stage.
