Your grandmother's parlour in Cork had a painting like this—not quite representational, but unmistakably Irish in its bones.

Harmony of Contrast

Ward's 1912 composition breaks colour into its honest parts: green, blue, orange in deliberate conversation. Created at a moment when Irish artists were learning to speak in abstraction, this work sits between the figurative and the pure. This is your chance to bring home a piece of Irish modernism before it slipped into the textbooks.

About the Artist

James Ward (1851–1924) was a Dublin-born painter who studied under Walter Osborne and lived through Ireland's artistic awakening. He moved between representation and abstraction with rare ease, never fully committing to either—a very Irish kind of restlessness. Ward worked quietly while others shouted, and his colour studies remain undervalued in Irish art history. This print resurrects one of his boldest moments.Tracked, securely packaged, delivered in 2-5 business days.
