More than décor — this is a cultural heirloom. A piece of the west of Ireland, for your wall, wherever in the world you are.
Achill Horses — Mainie Jellett
Achill Horses captures something that's hard to put into words — the west of Ireland at its most elemental. Mainie Jellett painted it in 1941, and the original has hung in the National Gallery of Ireland ever since. This is your chance to bring it home.
About the Artist
Mainie Jellett was the woman who brought modernism to Ireland. She studied in Paris, absorbed Cubism from its masters, and came home and changed Irish art forever. By the time she painted Achill Horses in 1941, she had found her own language — unmistakably Irish and unlike anything else being made at the time. She died three years later, aged 46. The National Gallery acquired the work shortly after.
