Painted in the early nineteenth century, View of the Devil's Glen captures the dramatic grandeur of County Wicklow's most storied ravine. Towering rock faces, ancient woodland, and rushing water converge in a composition shaped by the Romantic fascination with nature's power and mystery.

James Arthur O'Connor (1792–1841) was among Ireland's most accomplished landscape painters. In this work, he evokes the sublime — light breaking through shadowed valleys, deep forest tones contrasted with luminous sky, and the sense of solitude that defines the Irish wilderness.

The original painting, held in the collection of the National Gallery of Ireland, remains one of the finest visual interpretations of Wicklow's rugged beauty.
